Ambiguity , Market Prices , and Infra - Marginal Behavior

چکیده

It is difficult to explain the price insensitive or infra-marginal behavior, an example of which is the behavior of credit markets during the recent financial crisis, by risk aversion alone. It is known that infra-marginal behavior may arise with ambiguity aversion. Furthermore, there appears to be fairly strong evidence of a close connection between ambiguity and conformity. Here we propose an extension of the standard ambiguity framework to incorporate conformity. We find that there are open sets of state-price ratios over which the entire market is price insensitive or infra-marginal. This result has important implications for market equilibrium and volatility. JEL Classification: G1, D8

Ambiguity in Asset Markets: Theory and Experiment

This paper studies the impact of ambiguity and ambiguity aversion on equilibrium asset prices and portfolio holdings in competitive financial markets. It argues that attitudes toward ambiguity are heterogeneous across the population, just as attitudes toward risk are heterogeneous across the population, but that heterogeneity of attitudes toward ambiguity has different implications than heterog...

Nodal market power detection under locational marginal pricing

This paper proposes an index for nodal market power detection in power market under locational marginal pricing (LMP). This index is an ex-ante technique to detect the market power. More precisely, this criterion detects the potential of exercising market power regardless of detecting the actual market power. Also it is obvious that pricing and market clearing method affect the potential of exe...

Survival with ambiguity

We analyze a market populated by expected utility maximizers and smooth ambiguity-averse consumers. We study conditions under which ambiguity-averse consumers survive and affect prices in the limit. If ambiguity vanishes with time or if the economy exhibits no aggregate risk, ambiguity-averse consumers survive, but have no long-run impact on prices. In both scenarios, ambiguity-averse consumers...

Cognitive Biases, Ambiguity Aversion and Asset Pricing in Financial Markets∗

The behavior of agents in financial markets often displays biases or errors; for example, agents frequently do not compute probabilities correctly. However, we argue that these biases/errors are not always reflected in prices. In particular, we hypothesize that agents who make errors in computing probabilities lose confidence in their probability estimates when they face market prices that are ...

To this end, the optimal pricing process of domestic, importing and ...
